Dr. Levin was born in Winnipeg and raised in the small village of Winnipegosis, Manitoba where he graduated high school in 1946 (grade 11) and Harbord Collegiate in 1947 after moving to Toronto.
Graduating from the University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry in 1953, he received the Harold Keith Box Medal for proficiency in Periodontics and was appointed Dental Health Officer for Forest Hill schools where he held Dental Health Education Programs and was appointed to the volunteer staff at the Hospital for Sick Children until 1962. In between years of work and volunteering, Dr. Levin attended short post-graduate courses in Toronto and at various American Universities. In 1964 he enrolled in the Master's Program at the New York University Graduate Prosthodontics Dept. where he commuted weekly by plane for four years, graduated in 1968 and volunteered at Mount Sinai Hospital into 1970.
Dr. Levin was part of the Teaching Staff University of Toronto Faculty of Dentistry (undergraduate) from 1965 to 1976 and the Prosthodontic Graduate Dept. from 1970 to 1973 where he helped to establish the first Graduate Program in Prosthodontics in Canada. He received fellowship in Northeastern Gnathological Society (N.S.A.) founded by Dr. Frank V. Celenza in 1970, the Royal College of Dentists (Canada) in 1971 and elected fellowship of the International College of Dentists in 1989. Dr. Levin has given many lectures and courses to Dental Societies in various cities in Canada and Israel. He was also the Past President of Pi Chapter Alpha Omega Fraternity, serving as President of Toronto Alpha Omega Alumni Chapter and the Association of Prosthodontics of Ontario.
Other achievements recieved are the Achievement Award from Pi Chapter Alpha Omega (1953), Certificate of Merit Award – Toronto Alumni Chapter (1993), Meritorious Service Award from Tel Aviv University (1987) and Tower of David Award from State of Israel Bonds (1970). Dr. Levin is also the founder of Hebrew University Dental School in Jerusalem and the Tel Aviv University Dental School. .
Dr. Levin met his beautiful wife Marilyn at Harbord Collegiate, married in 1952 and has 4 children.
